Product page on the manufacturer's website.
What are the benefits of using a polarizing filter? Why is polarizing filter recognized among most photographers as an essential must-have filter? Does Photoshop or other equivalent editing tool work instead of polarizer? A polarizing filter allows you to; - control reflections from non-metallic objects; the surface of water, window, or glossy coating/painting. - prevent and reduce glare, still however, allow plenty of light through. It also makes subjects underwater transparent. - Enhance color saturation and contrast, especially under a scene of deep blue sky, vivid white clouds, spring greenery, or autumn color of leaves. Have you ever experienced, when taking landscape photography, ending up with a little different color from the actual landscape you have seen? The sky must have been more vivid and bluish in your eyes. A polarizing filter can properly contrast the crystal blue sky and the white clouds. Many photographers predominantly carry a polarizing filter, particularly for landscape photography next step after Lens Protector/UV filter in terms of protection, for some reason. The effects of polarizers cannot be easily mimicked with digital editing. Carrying a polarizer makes your image more vivid and clear, turning the actual landscape you've seen into your picture.
I add my own: polarizing filters are used to look / photograph through windows with glare.

Morse Code for Survival

Morse Code for Survival
Morse code is a method of communicating letters and numbers through quick beeps, clicks, or pulses of light. Morse code gives you the possibility of communicating long distances and through solid objects without the need for advanced technology, making it an invaluable skill for survival!

The Morse code for "A"
The Letter "A" with the 'Dit" and "Dah" placed on the letter as a memory aid.

In the event of a serious crisis, communication will be a challenge to say the least.
You will likely have to deal with power outages, inoperable cell phones, and the need to communicate covertly. In this kind of circumstance Morse code is a godsend. It requires little to no power or technology and very few people are able to interpret Morse code communication. In this day and age Morse Code is a lost skill, yet fortunately it is very easy to learn!

The above based mnemonic Braden-Powell included in the Girl Guides handbook in 1918

Toughen Up Your Feet

Toughen Up Your Feet
TRICK #1
Soak your feet in strong black tea or coat them in tincture of benzoin. The acids in both of these will help strengthen the skin on your feet. Stronger skin means less of a chance of a blister forming.

TRICK #2
Double up on socks. Many hikers like to wear a thin pair of liner socks inside their thicker wool hiking socks. Instead of your skin rubbing against the one sock, the liner will slide inside the thicker sock, absorbing the friction that commonly causes blisters.

TRICK #3
Break in your boots! The easiest and yet most commonly overlooked preparation for hiking is to wear your new boots around for a while before taking them hiking. Once the material has loosened, your feet will fare much better on a long hiking day. Wear them around the house, to work, or even on thetreadmill at the gym.

GoPro Camera File Chaptering

How are chapters created with GoPro cameras?

When recording a video, the camera will automatically segment into a new file chapter once it has reached a certain size. These files when put together with editing software will play seamlessly as if they were never chaptered. When played back from the camera directly the recording will play through as one continuous video.

Chaptering is intentional and there is no way to keep the camera from doing so. Chapters are divided like this so in the event of a jolt or crash that causes a file to become corrupted, only a portion of your video will be effected and not the whole thing. While there is a file recovery feature in the camera, chaptering is a precaution step just in case the feature is unable to fix the video.

Here are the chapter lengths for each camera:

HERO11 Black:

With a 64gb or larger SD card:

  • Chapter size: Approximately 12gb
    • 5K/30fps High Bitrate is approximately 15 minutes

Tom Robbins, Still Life with Woodpecker

“The difference between a criminal and an outlaw is that while criminals frequently are victims, outlaws never are. Indeed, the first step toward becoming a true outlaw is the refusal to be victimized. All people who live subject to other people's laws are victims. People who break laws out of greed, frustration, or vengeance are victims. People who overturn laws in order to replace them with their own laws are victims. ( I am speaking here of revolutionaries.) We outlaws, however, live beyond the law. We don't merely live beyond the letter of the law-many businessmen, most politicians, and all cops do that-we live beyond the spirit of the law. In a sense, then, we live beyond society. Have we a common goal, that goal is to turn the tables on the 'nature' of society. When we succeed, we raise the exhilaration content of the universe. We even raise it a little bit when we fail.

When war turns whole populations into sleepwalkers, outlaws don't join forces with alarm clocks. Outlaws, like poets, rearrange the nightmare.

The trite mythos of the outlaw; the self-conscious romanticism of the outlaw; the black wardrobe of the outlaw; the fey smile of the outlaw; the tequila of the outlaw and the beans of the outlaw; respectable men sneer and say 'outlaw'; young women palpitate and say 'outlaw'. The outlaw boat sails against the flow; outlaws toilet where badgers toilet. All outlaws are photogenic. 'When freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will be free.' There are outlaw maps that lead to outlaw treasures. Unwilling to wait for mankind to improve, the outlaw lives as if that day were here. Outlaws are can openers in the supermarket of life.”

The main drawback in the design of the watch is the large, protruding buttons.

The legs on which the buttons are attached can even bend a little.
Brutality in the appearance of the watch turns into their inconvenience.

What makes effective camouflage

What makes effective camouflage
Creation
Whether through intelligent design or a Divine Creator, effective camouflage actively or passively mimics nature.

Color
Effective camouflage matches both the obvious and subtle color nuances found in both plant and animal life in an environment.

Contrast
Effective camouflage takes advantage of naturally occurring changes in shadow and light.

Contour
Effective camouflage mimics the naturalunsymmetrical shapes and contours of objects found within an environment.

Context
Effective camouflage blends it together to give the appearance of belonging within a particular environment.

Cognition
Effective camouflage confuses the sensory organs and overloads the RAS portion of the brain.

RAS stands for Reticular Activating System.
