The higonokami, known as 肥後守, is a folding pocket knife originating in Miki, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, in 1896. This traditional knife lacks a locking mechanism and instead relies on friction to stay open. Users can utilize the swivel action or apply pressure with their thumb on the distinctive lever, called a chikiri, to keep the blade extended and to prevent the knife from folding. The handle of the higonokami is a single piece of folded-over metal.
