The Bug Out Bag is one of the most basic and important components of a Survival Kit. It should be lightweight, high quality, extremely versatile and water resistant. It should also have great straps and a molle system to attach items to the outside of the pack. A good Bug Out Bag should pack up small or expand when you need it to carry more items. Bug Out Bags can be small, medium or large in size. depending upon the type of emergency. The core items in a good Bug Out Bag are based upon the Law of 3's--your priorities in a survival situation.

Your PRIORITIES in a SURVIVAL SITUATION
1 You must obtain and maintain your core body temperature within 3 HOURS.
2 You must obtain WATER within 3 DAYS.
3 You must obtain FOOD within 3 WEEKS.

EVERYDAY DAY CARRY YOUR "GET HOME"BAG
A small Bug Out Bag that is very portable and versatile makes an excellent survival kit you can carry every day and use as your 'get home" bag. It should be small enough to store easily and expandable enough to add more items.
A nice padded over the shoulder strap that's adjustable will make it comfortable and easy to carry. It should have a molle system to attach lots of items and lots of pockets are useful and come in hand for easy access to gear on the inside and outside of the bag.
72 - HOUR BAG
Every person or member of a family should be prepared with a complete medium sized Bug Out Bag containing enough survival gear for an emergency lasting up to 72 hours. The bag should be high quality, lightweight,
compact, water resistant and rugged.
It should be expandable and have a molle system and lots of pockets and storage compartments large enough to carry your big items. Straps are useful for adjusting the contents of the pack so they don't bounce
around. It should also have drag handles and strong, comfortable shoulder straps for longer hauls.
LONG TERM BAG
A Long Term Bug Out Bag should be a part of every family or group's survival plan. It should be a large pack loaded with enough survival gear for longer term emergencies. The Bag itself must be high quality, lightweight, water resistant and durable. It should be outfitted with lots of pockets, sizable compartments, a molle system, straps, drag handles and of course, comfortable shoulder and hip straps for long hiking.
This full featured survival kit should contain all the core survival gear and in addition, should have a sleeping bag or wool blanket for cold weather. It should also have a first aid kit, shelter and tools such as a Machete
